November 6, 2008:
The steering group for the Vancouver Indoor Public Tennis Project met at the Kits Community Centre. Peter Jackson led a review of progress In the ten months since the steering committee first came together to advance the cause of a Vancouver Indoor Public Tennis Project. Many tennis players are becoming aware of the VIPTP and asking to be counted as supporters. Most candidates for Park Board seem to be aware of the project, and are supportive. We may reasonably anticipate that the newly elected Park Board will be one with which we can develop a fruitful relationship. It is hoped that the feasibility study for which the out-going Park Board committed to lend staff and resources can get started early in the new year. And we must continue to enlarge our number of committed supporters. To that end everyone is implored to inform friends and acquaintances about this project, and encourage them to express their commitment by signing on to the VIPTP e-mailing list. Where possible, notices will be placed in facilities to which Vancouver players travel to play in the winter, and in retail stores that are frequented by tennis players.

After some discussion it was agreed that our VIPTP steering committee is well positioned to act as an advisory group to Park Board regarding the maintenance and refurbishment of the public outdoor courts.

September 11, 2008: The steering group for the Vancouver Indoor Public Tennis Project met at the Kits Community Centre. Peter Jackson suggested that until January of next year, Park Board staff will be completely occupied with implementation of the Capital Plan for 2009. But by January, 2009, we hope and expect to make some concrete arrangement with Park Board regarding staff to work with us on the feasibility study. In the meantime, attention should be paid to the civic elections in November, particularly the election of a new Park Board.

July 14, 2008: After receiving a presentation from the group, The Park Board voted unanimously in favour of providing Park Staff support for research into feasibility and location of a public indoor tennis facility.

June 1, 2008: Current Parks Draft Capital Plan as been sent back from Council with minor cutbacks, but not specific to tennis courts.  Group will be working with Parks to ensure original allocation of capital dollars for courts are retained or kept as close to the original allocation as possible.

May 1, 2008: Parks draft allocation to court maintenance is over 4 x  greater than in previous years capital allotments.  This was an important step as the courts had been strongly underserved in previous plannings.  Kitsilano Beach, Charelson, and Strathcona courts are on the draft plan for major renovation/re-surfacing.  It is noted that the city staff engineer did study the Queen Elizabeth courts site.  They noted it will need more research as to the best course of action for that surface due to the fact the courts are on a reservoir.
